Mr. Fouad Makhzoumi welcomes Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s initiative to bring together former government heads and comments on the need to address the Dar Al Fatwa issue seriously and responsibly. The head of the National Dialogue Party, Mr. Fouad Makhzoumi, welcomed Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s initiative to invite all former heads of government to discuss the Dar Al Fatwa issue and to reach a solution to the crisis caused by the allegations against the Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohamed Rashid Qabbani. Mr. Makhzoumi commented on the need to address this issue, which has caused anger in the Sunni ranks, in a serious and responsible manner. Mr. Makhzoumi agreed with Mr. El-Hoss that the issue must first be addressed by the Grand Mufti himself in defense of the allegations against his person as well as Dar Al Fatwa.
Mr. Makhzoumi added that ignoring the problem and not revealing the truth behind the allegations had allowed the issue to gain momentum over several months. Mr. Makhzoumi welcomed Mr. El-Hoss’ call to finalize the problem once and for all, adding that if the scandal is not dealt with wisely, it will only lead to further allegations of “cover up operations” and corruption within Dar Al Fatwa.
Finally, Mr. Makhzoumi reiterated calls by the National Dialogue Party for further Sunni-Sunni communication.
